Interesting facts about Palinka
The main ingredients when making palinkas are plum, apple, pear, apricot, strawberry, cherry, grape marc, but any can of fruit can be used. Basically, it is from a mash of any fruit, which then goes through a distilling, maturing and bottling process.
Before feeling the irresistable urge to start making your own spirit, be aware that based on the Law, only those productions can be named Palinka which are produced in Hungary, they contain 100% fruit and has an at least 37,5 % alcohol contents.
Did you know that Hungary has been given the exclusive right to use the word Palinka?
There are certain areas in Hungary that are particularly suitable for the cultivation of certain fruits and therefore have been producing the best quality palinkas for many decades, and these are:

Békés plum brandy
Göncz peach brandy
Újfehértó sour cherry brandy
